PRESS RELEASE
PUBLIC CORRUPTION CHARGES IN HARLANDALE ISD
July 3, 2003
San Antonio, Texas:
District Attorney Susan D. Reed announced that charges have been brought
against former Harlandale ISD board member and President Mike Pachaco and
Edward Daly, an employee of Affirmed General Contracting. The
misdemeanor complaint filed by the District Attorney alleges that in July of
2001, Daly gave Pacheco 4 checks totaling $2000, which constituted gifts to
a public servant, a misdemeanor. If convicted, the two face up to a
year in jail and a four thousand dollar fine. Daly is an employee of
Affirmed, which does general contracting work. The contracting company
has not been charged. District Attorney Reed noted that the charges
are brought at this time because the two-year statute of limitations for
misdemeanors is about to expire. "This does not
end our inquiry, nor does it mean that additional charges will not be sought
when appropriate." Reed said. The investigation is
continuing.
