PHARMACIST ARRESTED FOR MEDICAID FRAUD
San Antonio: August 11, 2008: Today District Attorney Susan D. Reed, in cooperation with the Attorney General’s Office, the FBI and the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, announced the arrest of Marcelleus Jhekwuoba Anunobi, 44, a local pharmacist and owner of the Advanced Doctor’s Prescribed Pharmacy, located at 4499 Medical Drive, Suite #130, San Antonio, Texas for alleged Theft $20,000-$100,000. Anunobi, a Nigerian citizen, was arrested on August 8, 2008 and is being held without bond.
The arrest warrant alleges Anunobi billed the Texas Vendor Drug Program, a part of the Texas Medicaid Program, for prescription drugs never prescribed to nor received by two minors, in the amount of $36,500.56. The arrest follows a lengthy investigation into Anunobi’s business practices which revealed that this alleged Medicaid billing scheme was in place from November 19, 2007 through May 31, 2008.
At this time, Anunobi is charged with a 3rd degree felony, which carries a range of punishment of 2 years to 10 years confinement in the Texas Department of Corrections and up to a $10,000.00 fine. Additional charges are expected.
