LIFE SENTENCE AFFIRMED IN CONVENIENCE STORE ROBBERY & MURDER
San Antonio, Texas: Bexar County District Attorney Susan D. Reed announced today that on October 30, 2008, the Seventh Court of Appeals in Amarillo affirmed the Capital Murder conviction and life sentence against Johnny Llamas, age 30, for the shotgun slaying of Sundeep “Sunny” Singh during an armed robbery at the Road Runner Food Mart on Culebra Road on May 23, 2006. The murder was captured on store surveillance cameras. This video was aired on the local news. Based on several tips, Llamas and a codefendant, Jacob San Miguel, age 27, were arrested and linked to the crime through DNA evidence found on crime scene evidence.
The jury trial was held before 187th Judicial District Court, Judge Raymond Angelini on May 24, 2007, the jury did not assess the death penalty resulting in an automatic life sentence.
On December 20, 2007, the codefendant, Jacob San Miguel, entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to 50 years in prison.
