MAN GETS 8 YEARS IN PRISON FOR "SEXTING" A MINOR

San Antonio, Texas: January 15, 2010

Today Susan Reed announced that John Ramos, age 30, was sentenced to 8 years in the Texas Department of Corrections by 399th District Court Judge Juanita Vasquez-Gardner for the offense of Online Solicitation of A Minor, a 3rd degree felony.

These charges arose from an investigation by the San Antonio Police Department which revealed that Ramos was sending sexually explicit text messages to a 13 year old girl. Ramos had befriended both the child victim and her mother. The messages were discovered by the child's mother and reported to police.

The defendant entered a plea on December 4, 2009, and had asked the judge to grant him community supervision.

A third degree felony is punishable by 2 to 10 years confinement and up to a $10,000 fine.
