Police Office Facing Prison For Stealing Money From Police Officer’s Association
San Antonio, Texas: August 2, 2010
Bexar County District Attorney Susan D. Reed announced today that former San Antonio Police Officer Clifford Morgan, age 46, entered a plea of no contest to a second degree felony theft.
This charge arose from Morgan’s conduct from January 1, 2002 through February 29, 2006 when Morgan, while serving as the Treasurer for the San Antonio Police Officer Association (“Association”), stole $104,308.64 from the Association. He used Association checks and credit cards for personal use to buy such things as cars, computers, furniture, appliances, clothing, jewelry, travel, vehicle repairs, medical bills, and college tuition.
The agreement calls for a term of confinement of up to 10 years in prison and payment of restitution in the amount of $104,308.64. Under the agreement, the State opposes the defendant’s application for probation. 437th District Judge Lori Valenzuela, will determine Morgan’s punishment. The punishment hearing is set for September 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m.
Theft $100,000 to $200,000 is a second degree felony punishable by confinement of up to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000.00 fine.
