FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Bexar County Detention Guard Sentenced To 6 Years in Prison for Indecency With a Child By Contact
San Antonio, Texas: August 31, 2010
Today Susan Reed announced that a former Bexar County Detention Guard, Jesus Rodriguez, age 43, was found guilty by a jury on one count of Sexual Assault of a Child and two counts of Indecency with a Child by Contact. After a jury trial, Rodriguez elected to go to the jury for punishment. The jury assessed punishment at six years in prison on one count of Indecency with a Child by Contact and six years probation each on the Sexual Assault count and the other Indecency of a Child count. The trial was held in the 436th Judicial District Court before the honorable Judge Lisa Jarrett. Under the law, the sentences will run concurrently.
These charges arose from an incident on March 16, 2007, when Officers with the San Antonio Police Department were dispatched to a rape call. According to witnesses, a 16 year old female ran from an apartment screaming for help and being chased by an adult male. The victim stated that she was babysitting a nephew and while in the apartment her uncle, Jesus Rodriguez, sexually assaulted her. The victim’s description of the incident was supported by DNA evidence found on her body. At the time, Jesus Rodriguez was a detention guard with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Department, and was subsequently terminated following this incident.
Each of the charges is a second degree felony. A second degree felony is punishable by 2 to 20 years confinement and up to a $10,000 fine.
